City Council Meeting Sparta City Hall April 13, 2010
Shortly before the council meeting, incoming Alderman Jim Campbell and Carl Wesley Hull were swore in by City Clerk, Debbie Snider.
Meeting was called to order by Mayor Mike Younker at 6:30 pm with Alderman Raymond Hampton, Steve Beyers, Jim Campbell and Carl Wesley Hull present. City Attorney Jim Bowles was also present. Minutes of the March 9, 2010 meeting were read and approved by Council. Alderman Raymond Hampton made a motion to accept the minutes as read. Alderman Steve Beyers made a 2nd. All in favor.
Council reviewed the March 2010 bank statements, The General Fund Reconciliation; and the Water Department Credit Adjustment report. Council also reviewed the expenses of the previous month. Alderman Steven Beyers made a motion to approve the expenses. Alderman Jim Campbell made a 2nd. All in favor.
OLD BUSINESS; Chief Julie Niesen presented Council with a report of the Police Department’s daily activities for the month of March. City Attorney Bowles and Alderman Beyers inquires about number of reserve officers and when they work,
NEW BUSINESS; Allan Nichols speaks to Alderman regarding opening Al’s Cook Shack. Mayor Younker states Mr. Nichols does not need cities approval only that he needs to purchase a city business license. Mike Evans speaks regarding cul-de-sac on West end of Cobblestone. Alderman Jim Campbell suggests to take out grass and add base rock. Mayor Younker asks who will pay for survey to determine who actually owns the property in question and that he feels the responsibility of any expense of change in postal service is the responsibility of the Post Office, not the city. Mayor Younker advises Chief Niesen to visit with Postal employee Jeff Hampton to inform him to stay off of area in question to avoid damage to property.
Selection of Mayor Pro-Tem was made. Alderman Raymond Hampton nominates Alderman Steve Beyers. Alderman Hull 2nd motion, All in favor.
Alderman Beyers made a motion to go into a closed meeting. Alderman Hampton made a 2nd. All in favor. |
