Of the seven school districts in Christian County only Chadwick R-1 managed to meet all Annual Yearly Progress requirements, with other districts across the county remaining steady or falling even farther behind.

It appears the increase in reported crime is spreading beyond Springfield and into Christian County’s backyards. Small towns countywide, from Billings to Sparta, have significantly higher crime tallies through the first half of this year.
The county’s southernmost town with a police department, Sparta, has jumped from a mid-year total last year of 354 incidents to 417 so far this year, according to figures provided by the department. The major increase in Sparta is drug- and alcohol-related incidents. According to the figures, 22 drug and alcohol offenses occurred in the first half of 2009; this year the number is just shy of double, at 43.
