Ready for persimmon cookies and old-fashioned fun? Then you'll want to be in Sparta on Saturday October 30th for the annual Persimmon Days Festival, sponsored by the City of Sparta's Park Board. The event moves back to Main Street (Highway 14) for 2010, and admission is free; Hours are 9 AM to 5 PM.
This year's attractions include all the usual: arts and crafts, food, games, vendors, a cake walk, and a costume parade. As usual, you'll find a few persimmons and persimmon-based goods available as well. Miss Persimmon will be crowned October 29th.
For vendor information or to register your business for a booth click here or Contact Blake Leyland at 417-224-2479. If you're a concession vendor, and need electric, please let Blake know as soon as possible. Booth fees are required by October 29, 2009. Fees can be dropped off at or mailed to the city hall at PO box 246 Sparta, MO 65753. Please make checks payable to "Sparta Park Board". Setup for vendors, and vendor fees will be announced soon.

Youth program aims at future high school football

In July, the Sparta Cross Country team spent nine days at a training camp in Estes Park, Colo. During that time, they ran trails, hiked, had pool workouts and then afternoon training sessions at the local high school in town.
“This was a great trip for our team,” said head cross country coach Monica Wallace. “Running at an elevation of 8,000-11,000 feet proved to them they are able to do those things we never thought were possible.”

On September 11th the Sparta Park Board needs your help. A new pavilion will be set up and the grounds will be prepared for the playground equipment that is coming soon. Volunteers are needed for the following areas:
A crew to prep the playground area
A crew to put up a pavilion
A crew to clean and burn brush
A crew to help serve food and drinks
Work starts around 9 AM and lunch will be provided to volunteers by AJ's between 11:30 and 12:00. Work will continue until you wish to leave. To volunteer, please click here and email Park Board President Blake Leyland, or call him at 417-224-2479. |

Sparta City Hall
August 10, 2010
6:30 pm
Meeting was called to order by Mayor Mike Younker at 6:30 pm with Alderman Raymond Hampton, Carl Hull, and Jim Campbell all present. Alderman Steve Beyers was absent from Council meeting. City Attorney James Bowles and City Clerk, Deborah Snider also attended. Minutes of the July 13, 2020 meeting were read and approved by Council. Alderman Jim Campbell made a motion to accept minutes of previous Council meeting
Alderman Carl Hull made a 2nd. All in favor.
