The City has developed a first class park located on Division Street close to the Sparta High School. There are 3 playground areas with play equipment appropriate for toddlers and older children as well as swings and other play stations. The paved walking trail provides a 3/4 mile loop around the park. There is a Basketball area, Sand Volleyball area, horseshoe pit, and a 9 hole Disc Golf course located on the park grounds as well.
Two rentable pavilions with picnic tables are also available. There are barbeque grills located at each pavilion, as well as electrical outlets and water hydrants. To reserve a pavilion, please call (417) 634-3992. Pavilion rentals fees are $25.00.
The Park Board also hosts a variety of town events such as the Annual Easter Egg Hunt, the 4th of July Fireworks Event, Monthly Family Movie Nights at the Park, and the Annual Christmas Parade. No tax dollars are used to fund these events, and donations are always appreciated. Donations may be made at City Hall.
The volunteers who work on the Park Board are responsible for planning and implementing the features and functions of the City Park. In our long range plans are the addition of features to the main park. The Park Board meets the first Monday of the month at 6:30 PM at City Hall. All meetings are open to the public.
If you have suggestions or comments for the Park Board or would be interested in volunteering your time, contact Sparta City Hall at (417) 634-3992, or use the department contact form located on the website.
